Constable Training
Basic Constable Training
State constables are commissioned by SLED and support SC law enforcement in times of emergency and/or crises.
Prior to registering for this training, you must first complete and submit your application to SLED and receive approval to take the training. You can find the application and more information by visiting their website at http://www.sled.sc.gov/Constables.aspx?MenuID=Cons. Download the Group III State Constable application and mail it to the address show on the application. Approval by SLED can take up to 3 months. Once you are approved, you will receive a letter authorizing you to take the Basic Constable Course. You will be required to take the course within a year from the date stated on the letter. YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT A COPY OF THIS LETTER PRIOR TO REGISTRATION.
Tuition: $1295 (Scholarship funding may be available.)
Advanced Constable Training
To become an Advanced Constable, you must 1. Be in good standing with SLED and local law enforcements agencies, 2. Have been commissioned a basic state constable for at least one year, 3. Have completed 240 hours of duty time assisting local law enforcement agencies.
This course provides 62 hours of instruction and will be taught by Class 1 law enforcement officers who have instructor and defensive tactics certifications. Upon completion of classroom training, testing will be conducted at the SC Criminal Justice Academy. This course will cover the following topics, Juvenile Procedures, Child Abuse, Vulnerable Adults, Sexual Assault, Mental Illness, Prejudice & Personality, Officer Survival On and Off duty, Basic Patrol Operations, Strategies of Arrest, Emergency Vehicle Operations and Defensive Tactics.
Tuition: $695 (Scholarship funding may be available.)

Range Apparel and Equipment students need to bring for the Basic Constable class range days:

- 250 rounds of ammunition for the weapon used by the student. The same caliber dummy rounds should be provided, if available, but the dummy rounds are not required.
- Additional rounds of ammunition if the student needs additional practice or remedial training.
- Core X target backers, hearing protection, eye protection, weapons cleaning kit, holster or duty belt, flashlight, 2-3 magazines with magazine pouch.
- BDU (battle dress uniform) or jeans, shirt with a collar (no tee shirts), boots or tennis shoes (no open toe shoes). A hat may also be worn if desired. Rain gear if appropriate.
- Water or other non-alcoholic beverages are permitted on the range.

Police Pre-Academy Training Certificate (PPAT)
A partnership between the SC Technical College System and the SC Criminal Justice Academy, Police Pre-Academy Training (PPAT) Certificate is designed to address the industry’s current workforce shortage and enhance the policing profession overall. PPAT allows those who are at least 20 years old and have a clean background to attend the first part of the police academy BEFORE becoming employed.
What are the steps to take?

- Enroll and complete the Police Pre-Academy training with SCC.
- Secure employment with a South Carolina law enforcement agency within one year.
- Take and pass a cumulative exam and physical assessment test administered by the SC Criminal Justice Academy.
- Complete an eight-week training program at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia. Note: You will have to become employed with an SC Law Enforcement Agency before attending this 8-week program.

Once these steps are completed, candidates are ready to begin their career as a certified law enforcement officer in South Carolina.
How to Enroll?
There are certification requirements for the PPAT program.

- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be a high school graduate or have an equivalency.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
- Must be 20 years of age to enter the program.

Individuals will be responsible for the cost of the background check (must be performed by an approved organization: contact program director for more information).
Real Estate
In partnership with the Palmetto Real Estate Prep School, Spartanburg Community College is offering the following real estate courses.

Unit 1: Real Estate: First Year Sales Pre-License - Tuition $499
This 60-hour course is the first step for those who want to list, sell, purchase, exchange, lease, or dispose of real estate for others in the state of South Carolina. Topics to be discussed are real estate sales, real property law, agency, federal/state laws and regulations, pricing of real property, contracts, finance and mathematics. In order to take this course and to qualify for licensure the South Carolina Real Estate Commission (SCREC) requires you to be at least 18 years of age, have a criminal background check, be a high school graduate or a recipient of a certificate of equivalency (GED), have proof of completion of the 60-hour pre-licensing class and receive a passing score on the state exam.
Upon passing the class you will receive a certificate of completion and will be ready to apply to take the state exam with the SCREC. Within two (2) weeks you will receive a packet from the SCREC containing the information to contact the company that administers the state exam.
Before you apply for a salesperson’s license you will also need to complete an additional
Unit II: Advanced Principles in Real Estate course (30-hours). Upon passing the state
exam you will have one (1) year to find a real estate broker to supervise you (you’ll
be affiliated with their company). Once you find a brokerage to sponsor you, send
in your application and when your broker receives your license, you are ready to start
selling real estate in South Carolina

NOTE: Once you pass the course and receive your certificate, the certificate is good for five (5) years. Once you apply to take the state exam you have one year. If the year has gone by and the certificate is still good you just need to reapply to take the state exam.
Unit 2: Advanced Principles in Real Estate (AP) - Tuition $305
This 30-hour course consists of five six-hour courses that are designed to be interactive and presented via multi-media. Successful completion of this class meets the requirements developed by the South Carolina Real Estate Commission and will get you on your way to success in your chosen profession of real estate. This course consists of: Agency and Property Disclosure, Contracts, Ethics in Real Estate, Real World Fair Housing, Measuring and Valuation.
